The Asbury Park City Council held its latest meeting on October 8, at 6 p.m. in the Municipal Building Council Chambers. Mayor John Moor, Deputy Mayor Amy Quinn, and all council members were in attendance, along with other city officials.
This meeting was brief and to the point, with many empty seats in the audience. City Clerk Anothiny Cucci began by asking council members if they had any announcements to share with the public, and three responded.
Councilmember Angela Ahbez-Anderson announced that the city’s annual Trunk or Treat event is approaching and that volunteers and drivers are needed. The event will take place on Friday, October 31, in the City Hall parking lot from 4:30 to 6 p.m.
Councilmember Eileen Chapman shared details about Movies by the City, an upcoming community movie event at the Showroom Cinema in Asbury Park. On Tuesday, October 14, there will be a free screening of Barbie, which includes complimentary popcorn and drink. The event is open to Asbury Park residents only, seating is limited. Councilmember Yvonne Clayton announced that a Fall Fun Day will be held on Saturday, October 11, at Sunset Park from 1 to 4 p.m. The event will feature free food, giveaways, music and other activities for the community.
Agenda items discussed included:
- A resolution authorizing the purchase and installation of streetlights on Bond Street.
- A resolution amending a contract with T&M Associates for construction management services at the new Fire Department Headquarters.
- A resolution declaring opposition to the construction of the Williams Transco Northeast Supply Enhancement (NESE) Pipeline.
- An ordinance amending and supplementing Section 4-25, “Licensing of Towing Businesses,” Of Chapter 4 “General Licensing” in the City Code.
Only one person spoke during the public comment portion. She expressed appreciation to the council for passing the resolution opposing the NESE pipeline, which she described as a “nasty” and “harmful” project. She encouraged the council to urge Governor Phil Murphy to take a stand against it. The resolution ultimately passed unanimously.
The next Asbury Park City Council meeting is scheduled for October 22nd, at 6 p.m in the Council Chambers.
