Programs That Heal from the Inside Out

by Mychal Mills & Rodney Salomon

This is the second of a three part series about KYDS organization (Konscious Youth Developement Service). If you missed the first part read it here Part 1.

At KYDS (Konscious Youth Development and Service), healing is not a luxury, it’s a necessity. Every program we offer is designed to guide youth, families, educators, and communities through the process of returning to themselves. We believe that true transformation happens when people are seen, heard, nourished, and equipped with the tools to live in balance, mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually.

Our work serves all people, with deep roots in communities often overlooked by mainstream wellness movements. Whether in a classroom or a circle under the stars, KYDS creates intentional spaces that nurture human potential and reconnect us with who we truly are.

Over the last decade, KYDS has touched more than 45,000 youth, trained 10,000 educators, partnered with over 200 schools and organizations, and supported thousands of parents and community members in New Jersey and beyond. The data shows what our hearts already know: healing ripples outward.

We organize our work into two main categories: School-Based Programs and Community-Based Programs.

School-Based Programs

These programs bring healing-centered education, mindfulness, and emotional support directly into schools. They are trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and designed to support the whole child and the entire school ecosystem.

Konscious Classroom

Konscious Classroom has been implemented in over 30 schools across New Jersey, helping students and educators integrate mindfulness and SEL (social-emotional learning) into their daily routines. The program brings practical tools for emotional regulation, focus, and community building directly into classrooms.

The following data highlights our extensive partnership with the Asbury Park School District (2017–2021), where KYDS worked district-wide to embed healing-centered practices from elementary through high school:

Impact Highlights:

  • 85% of students reported feeling calmer and more focused after sessions.
  • Teachers consistently noted improved student relationships, emotional regulation, and classroom harmony.
  • 80% of educators reported gaining more teaching time (5–20 minutes daily) thanks to calmer classrooms.
