Yesterday, December 16, 2025 news broke about Garden State Equality Executive Director Christian Fuscarino’s arrest and being criminally charged with Endangerment of a Child (2nd degree) and 2 counts of Simple Assault (disorderly persons offenses).
The alleged assaults and endangerment occurred on November 9th 2025. Complaints were filed and Fuscarino was arrested on November 21, 2025. What transpired between those dates are unknown.
What is known is that Twenty-Five (25) days elapsed before the news broke; before Garden State Equality announced they had placed Christian Fuscarino on leave (not fired); and another day would pass before Christian announced on December 17, 2025 his resignation on social media.
Something maybe afoul here. Possibly. There may be employees/volunteers at Garden State Equality that had no idea anything had happened and were just as surprised as anyone else with the breaking news.
But it is very possible that someone knew. Fuscarino knew. Twenty-Five days elapsed.
Fuscarino should have immediately resigned and not waited for Garden State Equality to announce they placed him on leave. He is a public figure, a well-known public figure and one who should have known how to respond to being arrested and charged.
Fuscarino’s failure to resign immediately casts a doubt and a shadow, on a wonderful organization that has tirelessly worked for equality for years. His act of not resigning immediately places doubt on every hard-working person in that organization – and why? He selfishly waited, maybe hoping it was just pass? Maybe hoping no one would learn what happened? His hesitation, his lack of action and his selfishness may now be causing or could cause a huge backlash to an incredible organization. It’s shameful.
What’s more shameful is his announced resignation on social media. His announced resignation is honestly embarrassing. See text below taken from Fuscarino’s Threads account:
Yesterday I resigned from Garden State Equality to ensure that the organization’s work is not impacted by a private family matter.
While my loved ones and I have been working through this moment together with care and love, the press has turned a deeply personal situation into a public headline.
Everyone involved is safe and navigating this situation responsibly.
Out of respect—not for me, but for my family—I ask that this be seen for what it is: a private family moment, not a public spectacle.

Did he resign today or was he placed on leave by Garden State Equality? The two are very different and the difference matters.
When I first read Fuscarino’s resignation at around 7am on December 17, 2025 – there were negative comments – which are no longer there. Is he deleting comments? If you are a public figure and make an announcement such as the one he did; a couple of things could be done: don’t allow comments; or once comments happen Fuscarino should live with the feedback and negative comments.
Is Fuscarino attempting to curate his post and have only positive comments of support and love?
Let’s take a look at Fuscarino’s words in his announcement. He is claiming the incident is a “personal situation” and a “private family matter”. What? He was criminally charged with allegedly hitting a child in his home, which was caught on video. He is a public figure. This is anything but just a ‘family matter’.
Fuscarino also writes that “the press has turned a deeply personal situation into a public headline”. No, the press did not. Fuscarino did that by not immediately resigning once he was arrested and charged. The press is merely reporting what allegedly took place. Which is Fuscarino allegedly hit a foster child who was in his care.
What I read in Fuscarino’s statement is someone who is lacking in the ability to take responsibility for their actions. It’s a weak statement and he should have left it with just six (6) words: ‘Yesterday, I resigned from Garden State Equality’. But he didn’t, instead, he comes off as a victim and that the press is attacking him.
I am hoping the foster child is safe, removed from the home and is getting any/all therapy or treatment he/she needs. I am hoping Fuscarino’s fellow workers/volunteers are getting any help they might need, as I am guessing some of them may have been just as blindsided as any of us.
If someone (or multiple people) did know and didn’t report it to the board or if board members knew of the situation and did not take action prior to yesterday – I question the ethics of the board members who kept quiet. We may never know who knew (if they did) and I hope for this incredible organization, that not one person knew of the details in November.
Charges for 2nd degree Endangerment carry a maximum penalty of up to 10 years in New Jersey State Prison.
This is not anything to take lightly. This is not the press creating a headline.
